Audition Information

Membership in Choral Arts is by audition. All singers audition every summer before the beginning of the season. Choral Arts also welcomes inquiries from professional and professionally-trained singers regarding auditions during the season.  Choral Arts rehearses on Tuesday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.

What to Expect at the Audition

Prepare a piano-accompanied art song or aria of your choice. A hymn or folk song is also appropriate. The intent is to hear you sing something with which you feel comfortable and to demonstrate your vocal ability. An accompanist will be provided; please bring a copy of your music.

You will be asked to sing major and chromatic scales a cappella.

You will be asked to read aloud the following text, with Roman pronunciation:
Jubilate Deo, omnis terra; servite Domino in lætitia. Intrate in conspectu eius in exsultatione, quia Dominus ipse est Deus.

You will be asked to vocalize to check your singing range.

You will be asked to sight-read a choral passage.

You will be asked to commit to attending all rehearsals and concerts for the entire season, to pay the required music fee and to purchase your own concert attire.

To schedule an audition or for more information, call 423-877-7050 and leave your contact information, including day and evening phone numbers, or e-mail auditions@choralartsofchattanooga.org.
